Napalm’s Swans

I’m moved and delighted that, once more, my poem fit the NaPoWriMo prompt: “…for our daily prompt…I’d like to challenge you today to write a poem about an animal.”

Today’s prompt: daffodil, swan, napalm

Do daffodils bloom

Where hell’s horror napalm burned

Children, souls now swans

Valued Baby Boy

In Other Words, baby boy…

Obvious from early on

No special status, favor as first-born…

Once prince arrived, fanfare told

The higher value of baby boy.

Lived mourning stillbirth, female soul…

Rift Ponder

Thursday photo prompt: Rift #writephoto

Image: Sue Vincent

Impossible not to think

About rifts, how they’re

Carved, molded…rains run

Through them, hot tears

From unhealed hearts wear

Groove, melt stone, marrow…

Erosion continuing long after

Soul has breath to gasp, catch…

One day a river may flow wide

Clear, there…fish will swim

Children wade, lovers paint

Their names with fingertips

Dripping water on stones

Warm, cool…pondering

Future’s possibilities…

Careless that they’ll evaporate

Before next kiss ends on a sigh.

Zombies Scare Nanny

Today’s prompt: report, nanny, zombies

News report, “Zombies”

Nanny’s all a-flutter, frets

Children hug, comfort

Repeat parents’ oft-told line

“Don’t be scared, it’s just pretend”
