Yearning (NaPoWriMo)

Prompt: write a poem that uses repetition…repeat a word, or phrase…even repeat an image, perhaps slightly changing or enlarging it from stanza to stanza, to alter its meaning.

Yearning for time to open pages

Disappear inside bound papered

Walls, fort of words, escape…book.

Longing for printed lines that renew

Refresh mood, mental getaway.

Yearning burns for story which

Embraces me, a boon companion…

For ink-profiled characters more

Authentic, 3-dimensional, than

Most real people invested in.

Urgency in longing, yearning…

Time lifts broad tapestried wings

Of blinding hue.  Luxury journey

Literary—hands turning dim pages

Shakily—soon will pass from view.

Seashore Escape

Seashore spray, nothing else freshens spirit like it…

Fragrance rivals parfumerie’s best efforts.

Standing barefoot in sand’s embrace, I hold conch

Shell to ear… How songs of myth—sirens, sailors

Wash my thoughts, allow escape to place

Where love yet waits for me.

Heart bids me close my eyes, walk out into

Meet beckoning waves, and be borne faraway.

Heart Vision

Weekly Writing Prompt #178

With heart’s inner sight

I saw distant world

In your blue agate gaze

Ever enigmatic, unfathomable.

I filled in unknown details

From my own hunger

Like a paint-by-number canvas.

You were the shrouded rock I clung to

Untenable joint where real and imagined

Are hinged together, and which I’d

Never pierce, nor sever from my soul…

I had no need, no sword keen enough

To make the cut.

It mattered not that our lives

Weren’t meant to merge…

As a child I didn’t understand

And love doesn’t care about

Trivial facts: you, 32 years senior

And ensconced in cloistered fame.

Time passed with ebb, flow of tides…

One day, you sailed to Far-Forever

I sang no mourning song, grieved not

For you were finally reaching my shore.

Ageless Romance

Twittering Tales #125 – 26 February 2019

Sweet piercing passion

Escape from ennui

Tossed pillows, wrinkled sheets waft

Raw perfume, afternoon romance

Did I say I love you?

Yes…you relish the moment your

Name becomes dawn-out keening

On my lips

We aged together

Not realizing we’re “old”…like

Teenagers soon craving “next time”.
