Groundhog Day

V.J.’s Weekly Challenge #45: Anniversary

V.J.:  “So my challenge to you this week, is to pick a date (not necessarily a date of traditional significance) and look back.”

February 2, 1978

Court date for Dissolution

Strange word for ‘divorce’

As though to dissolve marriage

In dark legal elixir

Briefest Q & A

Head spinning, single again

Gavel banged ‘freedom’

My decision, not first choice

Ideals shattered, must breathe safe

Date took on humorous twist

Groundhog Day…heart gags

Dear Vincent (NaPoWriMo)

There have been few days of NaPoWriMo that I’ve been able to somewhat satisfy the optional prompt, however today offers fulfillment (hope readers agree) 🙂

Dear Vincent, kindred

Soul to me, heart’s brother far

How I long to meet

Clasp hands that brushed starry night

Filled canvases iris-full

I would have fed you

From small kitchen’s steaming pots

Breads, delicious baked

Listened as you spoke of God

Your desire to preach denied

Happy days unshared

They wait, pastel Tomorrows

Soon I’ll join you, Home

Darkest of Days

O darkest of days…

Followers trembled with fear

Grief, uncertainty

Jesus told them what must come

Yet it was too horrible

They waited, wondered

Comforted one another

Hearts’ long darkest day

Heart Like a Boulder (NaPoWriMo)

Heart like a boulder

Not hard-edged, stony, but huge

Heavy with love’s thoughts

Yellow creases ’round your eyes

Sunshine; gold delight, your kiss

Man without equal

Love which couldn’t be copied

Spring, reminiscent

April’s flowered innocence

And I, still longing for you

Envy Not (NaPoWriMo)

FOWC with Fandango — Envy

The optional prompt features and is inspired by Maggie Smith’s poem, “Good Bones”… a phrase used by real estate agents, regarding the unseen potential in houses lacking appeal.  Click the NaPoWriMo link for more information.  I was pleasantly surprised, once again, that the poem I’d already written wasn’t miles off the mark 😉

I never envied

People their wealth, possessions

Bright shiny baubles…

Allure, was families’ close net

Secure laughter, affection…

In time I realized

No one has fairytale life

Skeletons grin wide

Retirement’s Long Hours

Prompt: midnight, sweatshirt, application

I wake at midnight

Aware husband’s not in bed

Follow kitchen’s glow

In sweatshirt, at table he’s

Writing job application

Reassures my frown:

No money worries…hours of

Retirement too long.

Sweet Hope (NaPoWriMo)

Click above link for blog prompt info.  This post, written also for NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo, does not feature the April challenge’s daily optional prompt.

Once New Year fireworks

Disperse…January’s bleak

I live for cherry

Blossoms, harbinger of Hope

Sweet fullness pops on branches…

Too soon wind rushes

Petals falling, warm pink snow

Carpets earth for brides
