Heart Vision

Weekly Writing Prompt #178

With heart’s inner sight

I saw distant world

In your blue agate gaze

Ever enigmatic, unfathomable.

I filled in unknown details

From my own hunger

Like a paint-by-number canvas.

You were the shrouded rock I clung to

Untenable joint where real and imagined

Are hinged together, and which I’d

Never pierce, nor sever from my soul…

I had no need, no sword keen enough

To make the cut.

It mattered not that our lives

Weren’t meant to merge…

As a child I didn’t understand

And love doesn’t care about

Trivial facts: you, 32 years senior

And ensconced in cloistered fame.

Time passed with ebb, flow of tides…

One day, you sailed to Far-Forever

I sang no mourning song, grieved not

For you were finally reaching my shore.
